    2019年12月18-20日

Polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cell has been regarded as a potential power source for various applications due to its noteworthy features of high efficiency and zero emission. Its performance and dynamics are controlled by electrochemically coupled transport processes, including fluid flow, phase change, species transport, energy conservation, and proton/electron conduction. Gas diffusion media are one of the most important components in PEM fuel cell, which provide pathways for gas reactants, electron/heat transfer, and liquid removal. Fundamentals are required to improve their engineering design and transport control, and improve fuel cell performance and durability. In this talk, I will present several fundamental and design aspects of fuel cell gas diffusion media that the UC Irvine has original contributions, including: Stochastic Material Reconstruction of Gas Diffusion Media; Two-phase Flow and Heat Pipe Phenomena; Multiphysics of Gas Flow, Heat Transfer, and Electron Conduction in the Micro-structure, Heterogeneity’s Impacts, including Land Compression, and Mix-wettability Impacts. Some work was in collaboration with the Sandia National Lab and Las Alamos National Lab and supported by Nissan, Honda, and Ford Motor Companies.

    2019年12月18-20日

The city of Huelva, its port and its estuary have been deeply interrelated throughout the centuries. For years, the last navigable section of the Odiel estuary has been linked mainly to mining and industrial uses, its use being marginal for the enjoyment of citizenship. The advances that are taking place in different administrations policies in urban and territorial planning are making compatible the transformation of their socio-economic activity and putting in value Muelle de Levante for the citizens. Since the expansion of the Port of Huelva and the transfer of its main focus of activity to the outer port, the weight of the inner port in all its activities has been greatly reduced, coinciding with a strong citizen demand to recover the contact of the city of Huelva with its estuary. To achieve it and make it sustainable in the medium and long term it is necessary to incorporate new uses this urban sector that provide value for citizen enjoyment and make possible the implementation of compatible non-industrial activities in Muelle de Levante. Port-city actions undertaken in recent years Huelva Port Authority as the Paseo de la Ría have shown how it is possible to rehabilitate port areas, facilitating the meeting of the city of Huelva with its estuary by organizing a common place for citizen leisure and compatible portuary uses. The master plan presented in this work allows the orderly development of fishing, industrial, portuary, commercial and recreational activities, generating synergies between them. It also highlights the important industrial port heritage of more than a kilometer of historic quay that has been the origin of the city of Huelva and currently an opportunity for port-city integration. We are referring, in short, to the transformation of an important border-boundary of the city of Huelva historic center into a unique both portuary and citizen space.

    2019年12月18-20日

The purpose of this speech is, to provide the non-linear biodynamic response of tissue-structure interaction under extreme impulsive loading like blast and crash through the analytical and numerical simulation methods. The numerical simulation is conducted using finite element analysis (FEA) software for modeling biomechanical correct human model. Vibration mathematical model and dynamic model includes resonance frequency, damping co-efficient, stiffness constant and extinction time for different kind of physique. Due to complexity of tissue-structure, mobility and materials which has multi degrees of freedom, three dimensional models are generated from micro tomography (μCT-scan) and computational biomechanical analysis forces was performed in LS-DYNA. Non-linear material properties for tissues and structure are considered. The cortical bone is heterogeneous in nature and has viscoelastic properties. Also biologically tissue is treated as a viscoelastic material The model- calculated deflections and forces were analyzed. The result strongly depends on the modeling of the tissue-structure interaction which is used in numerical simulation collected from the FEA software. This indicates the necessity of the correlation between the results of the experimental data, if available, and the results from the from nonlinear simulation modeling.

Dr. Yahia Al-Smadi, Assistant Professor, has a professional life experience in many fields includes Synthesis and analysis of mechanisms and machinery, Finite element method, nonlinear dynamic response of structure and soft tissues to extreme loading, biomechanics and wearable robots. He is currently serving as Transfer Technology Officer (TTO) at Department of Mechanical Engineering, Jordan University of Science and Technology and Director of Autonomous Platforms Lab.

    2019年12月18-20日

In recent years, there has been an increasing amount of literature on piles’ effective length. A number of studies have found that the single pile’s effective length could be computed by means of different methods which are unsuitable for grouped piles’ computation. In order to understand how the effective length of piles should be calculated, a series of studies was performed in this paper. On the basis of numerical analysis for grouped piles foundation, the computed results indicate the existence of piles’ effective length. Taking an engineering example as a case, both the finite element analysis and the semi-analytical element analysis are used for analyzing. It is revealed that the influencing factors of grouped piles’ effective length are as follows: the pile-soil modulus ratio, top load distribution area, pile diameter, etc. The grouped piles’ effective length increases gradually with the increasing top load distribution area. Although it is difficult to use an appropriate formula to reflect the influence of various factors on the grouped piles length, different various factors can be considered in the numerical simulation analysis. The influencing factors on the grouped piles’ effective length should be considered synthetically. An example of highway in-situ study makes the grouped piles’ effective length be understood deeply both in theory and practice.

    2019年12月18-20日

Fiber-reinforced polymer matrix composite materials are used in structural applications exposed to water. Voids and porosity may exist at the fiber/matrix interface due to imperfect bonding. Such structural defects are detrimental in the materials, as they not only reduce mechanical strength but also provide extra paths for water absorption and filling beyond moisture diffusion in matrix. As polymer matrix composite materials are gaining wide acceptance for several important structures, there has been concern about possible degradation of the performance from exposure to moisture in the form of humid air. Less considered is the influence of direct contact of the composite with liquid water. In this study, we develop a mathematical model to describe the kinetics of water uptake in unidirectional fiber reinforced resin composites containing voids. This model has been validated by the experimental results obtained from long-term water immersion.

Hydrogels are materials that consist of crosslinked polymer networks dispersed in water. While a number of promising properties, such as biocompatibility and environmental friendliness, responsiveness to external stimuli, adhesion, and biodegradability have been integrated into hydrogels, the relatively poor mechanical and self-healing property of hydrogels remain a challenge, impeding their use in real-world applications that require mechanical integrity. Here, we report that two interesting polymer networks with noncovalent crosslinks can lead to superior stretchability and damage recovery. These networks allows the hydrogels to stretch up to 100 and 40 times their initial length, respectively and to completely self-heal within 30 s and 5 s without external energy input, respectively.

Recently, more attention has been given to controlling the morphology of the metal oxide nanostructures in the synthesis because the novel functionalities of nanostructures depend not only on their compositions but also on their shapes and sizes. Therefor, best responded morphology of metal oxide for different technological application can be further employed by doping with other available material such as carbon support and metal deposition, which can further enhance the properties of metal oxides. Hence binary and ternary nanocomposites can be synthesized and used for energy storage and conversion application as well as for electrochemical applications. In our studies we have started from Co3O4 nanostructures and then compared the performance of all synthesizes nanostructures based on their electrochemical application studies. The work was further extended by using graphene as conducting platform for Co3O4 nanostructure, and the synthesized material was used as a catalyst for energy application. The further step includes the synthesis of ternary nanocomposite which was accomplished by the deposition of minimal amount of metal nanoparticles and used for electrochemical sensing application.

Nanotechnology is arguably the most revolutionary field of the 20th century, as it exposed new frontiers of technology. The application of nanomaterials have dominated almost all of the field of applications. Transition metal oxide nanostructure is a unique class of nanomaterials which emerged on the horizon of nanotechnology as a shining star. Due to extraordinary physical, chemical, optical and magnetic properties of metal oxide nanostructures, they have a wide range of applications in industry, pharmacy and optoelectronics. Beside metal oxide nanostructures, carbon is naturally occurring element which bears a number of auspicious characteristic properties that makes it an ideal building block in various electrochemical applications. Herein, a library of conductive matrix (conducting polymers, graphene and carbon nanotubes) based nanocomposite platforms, such as carbon supported nanostructured metal oxides for high energy density supercapattery. The metal oxides/phosphates with a large surface area to volume ratio have excellent theoretical capacity, low bandgape and rapid electron transfer kinetics, which make them suitable for electrochemical energy storage devices. Moreover, their low-cost, facile synthesis, durability and diverse morphologies are the motivating features to commercialize them for energy storage. Additionally, confusion about pseudocapacitors and battery grade materials will be explained.

"A picture is worth a thousand words." Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) is an attitude to analyzing the data that employs a variety of techniques (mostly Data Visualization) and tries to make some sense of it. EDA and data visualization are the most crucial yet overlooked stage in analytics process. EDA is becoming more and more important for modern data analysis, such as business analytics and business intelligence. EDA is useful for professionals as it uses collection of “statistical graphics" while a detailed yet simple data visualization is useful for end-users. EDA helps in understanding the data. Understanding the data brings familiarity with the data, giving insights on the best models that fit the data set, the features in the dataset that will be useful for building an accurate machine learning model, making feature engineering an easy process. In this speech, I will give a detailed explanation on what EDA and data visualization are and why they are very helpful in building accurate models for analytics as well as enhancing productivity and better understanding for researches.

Information retrieval (IR) involves solving problems by analysing data already present in databases. Due to the explosive growth of both business and scientific databases, extracting efficient classification rules from such databases has become an important task. This is because IR technique is an important form of knowledge extraction and can help to make key decisions. Nevertheless, classification technique can be improved by integrating the latest technology, namely, Swarm Intelligence. This study proposes two types of IR techniques: Artificial Bee Colony, and Intelligent Dynamic Swarm, which are both based on Swarm Intelligence. The experimental results showed that both the Intelligent Dynamic Swarm are robust and able to achieve high IR accuracy in a changing environment within the data instances.

Integrating several empirical studies by the author, the presentation reviews the American School Leadership Standards adopted by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education, examines the perceptions of Chinese school principals on the importance of the American School Leadership Standards, explores the American principals’ data-driven decision-making (DDDM) practices related to the leadership standards, and identifies the factors of their information use environments that affected DDDM. Using advanced statistical analyses, results of the studies revealed that 1) Chinese principals perceived the majority of American leadership standards to be important in school administration with significant differences among the leadership dimensions, 2) American principals used data more frequently in instructional and organization operational leadership than in the leadership dimensions of school vision and collaborative partnerships, 3) Different contextual factors affect data use in different leadership dimensions. Person-related factors seem to have direct effects on data use in instructional leadership where DDDM is extensively practiced and reinforced. Organization-related factors tend to have a more direct influence on data use in the leadership dimensions, where DDDM is at the initial stage and less frequently practiced. Results provide insights into practice, research, and theoretical foundation for the emerging topics of leadership standards and data-driven decision making. Implications and recommendations were made in using the framework of American School Leadership Standards for upgrading Chinese school administrators’ leadership, developing and re-developing university programs and professional training in school leadership.

    2019年12月16-18日

Partial cloverleaf (parclo) interchanges with closely spaced parallel entrance and exit ramps are more prone to wrong-way driving (WWD) compared to other interchange types. In this study, a Firth’s model has been developed to predict the risk of WWD at the exit ramp terminals of parclo interchanges based on effect of geometric design features, wrong-way related traffic control devices, area type, and traffic volume. According to the model, the significant predictors of WWD at parclo exit ramp terminals include corner radius from crossroad to entrance, type of median on crossroad, width of median on two-way ramp, channelizing island, distance to the nearest access point, “Keep Right” sign, wrong-way arrow, intersection signalization, and traffic volume at the exit and entrance ramps. This model was used to conduct network screening for all the exit ramp terminals of parclo interchanges in Alabama and Georgia to identify high-risk locations in these two states. Seven high-risk locations were monitored by video cameras for 48-hours to observe the occurrences of WWD incidents. Results suggest that two locations in Alabama and two locations in Georgia experienced multiple WWD incidents within 48-hours of a typical weekend. Therefore, the observation of WWD incidents at high-risk locations demonstrates strong evidence that the model was capable of identifying the exit ramp terminals with high risk of WWD.

This article examines the association between green logistics operations, social, environmental and economic indicators of SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) countries. The research used GMM (Generalized Method of Moments) and FGLS (Feasible Generalized Least Squares) two methods to tackle the problems of heterogeneity, serial correlation and heteroskedasticity. The findings show that fossil fuel consumption is at the heart of logistics operations; the more fossil fuel and non-green energy resources that are used, the more negative effects on society and environmental sustainability result from this. A lower quality of transport-related infrastructure and logistics services is negatively correlated with fossil fuel usage, carbon emissions, health expenditure, greenhouse gas emissions and political instability of SAARC countries. Conversely, efficient customs procedures and greater information sharing among supply chain partners increase trade opportunities and also improve environmental sustainability in terms of minimum carbon emissions due to the shorter waiting and queue times involved. Further, the application of green energy resources and green practices can mitigate negative effects on social and environmental sustainability due to better logistics operations while improving financial performance in terms of higher GDP per capita, trade openness and greater export opportunities around the globe. As there is very limited research using green practices relationship with macro-level indicators in current literature, this research will assist both practitioners and policymakers to understand the roles of green supply chain and green logistics in enhancing environmental sustainability, social improvement and economic growth for a better future.

The theoretical solutions are simply not able to unlock the psychological issues in organizations because it is closely linked to affective, cognitive and human behavior in public sector. In this study, the issues in the workplace are referring to emotional intelligence, self-esteem and commitment of employees. The specific purpose of this study was to test the impact of emotional intelligence among employees whether it able or unable to influence a commitment to the organization through employee self-esteem factor. A total of 196 civil servants in the Local Authority (LA) have been selected as respondents. Measurement tools that are used in the data lump is Emotional Intelligence Self-Description Inventory (EISDI), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) and the Employee Commitment Survey Revised Version (ECS). The data was then analyzed using hierarchical regression analysis. The findings show that emotional intelligence and four dimensions of emotional intelligence have a direct impact on organizational commitment. In fact, the emotional intelligence and dimensions also has an indirect effect on organizational commitment when self-esteem as mediator factor is controlled. Employee self-esteem later found to function as a partly mediator that affecting the relationship between overall emotional intelligence and four dimensions of emotional intelligence with organizational commitment. The most important findings are found emotional intelligence dimension among employees are able to become more relevant with the increasing availability of commitment of employee when there was the element of self-esteem as a mediator factor.

Work interruptions have made significant inroads into the knowledge workers’ nonwork domain, in large part due to the ubiquitous nature of mobile devices that blur the work–nonwork boundaries by enabling work interruptions anywhere and at any time. We examine the effects of such technology-mediated work-related interruptions that occur during one’s time off on both work and nonwork outcomes. Leveraging theoretical perspectives from interruption, work–life interface, and conservation of resources, we conceptualize both positive and negative effects of such interruptions on behavioral and psychological outcomes. We identify three mediating mechanisms via which these effects occur: interruption overload and psychological transition via which negative effects occur and task closure via which positive effects occur. Results reveal significant effects of interruptions on work and nonwork outcomes through the three mediating mechanisms. Although positive effects are observed, the total effects of work-related interruptions are detrimental across both work and nonwork outcomes, with the strongest negative effect on three types of workplace deviance (i.e., interpersonal, organizational and non-work deviance). Analysis also reveals that the moderating results of the model suggest that a higher level of work family conflict is associated with higher after-hours work related technology use and that the work family conflict level is likely to be higher when people have higher level other-initiated interruptions. We calculated the index of moderated mediation (Hayes, 2015), and results revealed that the difference between the two coefficients was also significant. The study concludes with implications for research and practice on how to mitigate negative effects and enhance positive effects.

China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is considered as “a game changer” for Pakistan, which is expected to bring revolution in all sectors of economy. Geographically, Gilgit – Baltistan is the gateway of CPEC, and recent huge inflow of domestic tourists to Gilgit-Baltistan is owing to expansion of KKH under one-belt one-road initiatives. Majority of the earlier studies on CPEC are at broader level focusing on its effects on economy, and its geo political and geo strategic importance for China and Pakistan. However, limited or lack of studies available on focusing the perception of people living on the gateway and along the main routes of CEPC. Therefore, this research aimed to analyze the mediating role of tourism in affecting the local economy of Hunza. This research proposed Structural Equation Modelling for exploring the local people perception on CEPC projects and its effect on economy tourism development. In addition, descriptive statics tools have been used for data analysis. Before analyzing the data, Alpha Chronbha test is used to check the reliability of the various items of the questionnaire .The data is collected from locals, students, hotel owners and people related to various businesses. Lastly, the data analysis is carried out in SPSS and STATA. The results of Alpha Chronbha test shows that the given components are reliable. On the other hand, the outcomes of the Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) has shown that according to perception of the people “CEPC is a game changer for economy”. In addition, the significant effect of CEPC projects on the tourism development in Hunza. However, the results of the study have also revealed that CPEC projects has negative effects on environment and local culture according to perception of local people. No doubt, CPEC is a “Game Changer for economy”. However, to address the issues related to environment both countries i.e. China and Pakistan should focused on the sustainability of the various projects. In addition, majority of the people living along the CEPC routes are facing severe economic issues i.e. poverty and unemployment. Therefore, the policy makers should design such projects, which improve the living standards of the people and create sense of ownership among the people.

Human red blood cells (RBCs) are subjected to dynamic and cyclic loads when they traverse through the cardiovascular system during their normal lifespan of approximately 90 to 120 days. Abnormal conditions such as cold storage and pathologies can affect their capability to withstand the cyclic stressing in blood circulation, leading to undermined biological functions and shortened lifespan. A quantitative measure of the dynamic behavior of RBCs under the cyclic loads, can elucidate the fatigue process of cell membranes during blood circulation. We established a new experimental approach based on amplitude modulated electrodeformation in a microfluidic platform. This approach allows generation of monotoic and cyclic loads in the forms of mathematically defined waveforms or arbitrary loading profiles for the study of fatigue failure in plasma membranes of cells. Deleterious effects of cyclic loads were quantified by the characteristic fatigue features and membrane biomechanics for both healthy and abnormal RBCs. The results showed strong correlations between cellular physiological state and fatigue life. This approach provides an accelerated lifespan testing for RBCs and can be extended to other cell types.

There is a wide consensus about the requirements that 5G systems should meet in the near future, where applications coming from diverse use cases and verticals will require to considerably enhance the available bandwidth, the latency reduction improving the Quality of Experience (QoE). The resource allocation and interference issues of device-to-device communications (D2D) is an intersting challenge. Interference management schemes in D2D communication is an intersting topic to enhance the mentioned Radio Resource Management (RRM) approaches. Heterogeneous networks (HetNet) are also a promising solution to improve network performance in terms of spectrum and energy efficiency. In fact, the implementation of femtocell access points with the existing macrocell base stations networks is a good solution not only to ameliorate indoor coverage but also to enhance the capacity of cellular mobile networks. Consequently, the deployment of the femtocell technology will be very useful for both users and mobile network operators because femtocell networks provide better quality of wireless services and data transmission. First, we present different schemes of (RRM) including mode selection, power control, and resource allocation by using GT tools in D2D communication. Second, The overall problem relative to a Heterogeneous networks (HetNet) is formulated as a non-cooperative game where users act selfishly to maximize their utilities while taking into account the interference caused by both the macrocell and the femtocell. We will prove also that there exists a pure strategy Nash equilibria under feasible utility functions. Finally, the operational effectiveness of this approach is evaluated through modeling, simulation and presentation of distinct scenarios that can be happened in the proposed game.

The capability of Fe nanowires to generate future technologies and numerous applications in engineering and science cause the researchers to explore and characterize nanowires which includes the chemical characterization, mechanical characterization, physical characterization and so on. Innovative experimental processes and methods to characterize Fe nanowires are always industrialized to find out the best accurate and most blunt ways to extract the outcomes. The content of Fe inside nanowires increases with increasing potential, decreasing deposition temperature and increasing concentration of Fe ions. This can be verified by the polarization curves of depositing Fe Fe, Ni, Ag and Co nanowires. Thermal agitation at low temperature is marginal for activating the surface diffusion and the growth is difficult. Using the electrons tunneling theory, we have argued that the current density of the metals depends on the workfunction and width of double layer. The current density increases with decreasing the length of double layer. The numerical measurement of mechanical properties of iron (Fe) with respect to ultimate tensile strength. Tensile tests of individual metallic Fe nanowires having diameters between 50 and 100 nm were considered. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) is the main equipment which was used in our experiments. Ultimate tensile strength improved as the diameter of Fe nanowires decreased. Our initial investigation on a 100 nm diameter Fe nanowire revealed that the sample cracked at a tensile stress of 13.1 GPa The maximum tensile strength in our tests for Fe nanowire was found to be 16 GPa, which is about 50 times of the bulk value of iron. This greater strength of Fe nanowires can be attributed to smaller diameter of nanowires.

Post-tensioned pre-stressed duct is widely used in the construction of bridges. The grouting of post-tensioned pre-stressed duct is a key process of building pre-stressed concrete structure. In the real construction operations, improper ratio of grouting, incorrect grouting operations and man-made errors lead to imperfect grouting, voids and holes inside the ducts. These defects cause the corrosion of pre-stressed steel bars and the reduction of working life of ducts, then threaten the safety of bridges. Therefore, inspecting the grouting quality of post-tensioned pre-stressed ducts has practical significance on preventing the bridge accidents and ensuring the safety of bridges. The capacitive proximity sensor is used to inspect the grouting quality of post-tensioned pre-stressed ducts in this dissertation. The main research works include: (1) Performance evaluation of capacitive proximity sensor, (2) Hardware design of inspection system for grouting quality of post-tensioned pre-stressed duct, (3) Experiments for inspection system for grouting quality of post-tensioned pre-stressed duct. Three two-phase models are inspected by self-designed system, the experimental results indicate that the system can locate the boundary positions of air-water model and air-cement model, the relative errors of measurement are eair-water=6.9%, eair-cement=1.7%; a new method based on Q-factor for inspecting grouting quality of post-tensioned pre-stressed duct is presented, three-phase model is inspected using the new method, the band width and the cutting-off points are defined, the center frequency is selected as the parameter to distinguish the boundary positions, the results illustrate that the new method can locate the boundary positions of air-exuded liquid and exuded water-cement, the relative errors of measurement are e1=6.5%, e2=10.8%.

    2019第四届经济,金融与管理科学国际会议

    2019年5月27-29日

Historically, the Socratic method has been used by many educators for several centuries, however, it has been noted that this form of instruction is starting to be replaced by elements of new technology being introduced into the learning environment. In particular, many academic institutions have been adopting more technology into their classrooms and embracing the field of online learning. However, as with any new technological evolutions and changes in the learning environment, value for such change is needed to be realized by the stakeholders, namely, the educators and adult learners. Consequently, studies have shown a sharp increase of online learners today, for example, one out of three American students will enroll in at least one online course according to a study by Babson (2016). While these online enrollments are growing, there is a stronger need for educators to connect the online learners to the course content knowledge, as well as help them to connect to the technology being used both within the classroom and the virtual community as a whole. One teaching strategy being used by online instructors is the use of web page applications to require students to create their own webpage as a framework for creating a portfolio of assignments created in a course, as well as using this web page creation as a form of lifelong learning for their further use of their web page beyond this course end. Therefore, this paper will overview the use of web page applications as part of a portfolio foundation or framework for selected course work to highlight now only student achievement in terms of academic credit, but also to introduce them to the potential use of such web page applications for future endeavors, namely, lifelong learning.

Dr. Bob Barrett is a Full Professor in the School of Business at the American Public University, as well as teaching military students in the American Military University. Dr. Barrett has spoken extensively at various international conferences in Europe, South America, and Asia, as well as has served on multiple international conferences in the areas of intellectual capital, knowledge management, human resource management, education and psychology, online learning, business entrepreneurship, educational technology, and management. He has published several book chapters and articles in peer-reviewed journals in the international context.
